I know this post is a day early, but I’m going ahead with it…
I am thankful for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love that we take time to remember our blessings and to give thanks with family and friends.
My favorite things about Thanksgiving. These are in random order, of course.
- Cornbread dressing. I simply cannot get enough cornbread dressing. I finally got over my fear of messing it up last year and tried my hand it at. I won’t say it turned out as good as my Gran’s or Mom’s, but it was good. I think this is a talent that comes with experience in making it, so I’ll be making it again this year. I love the simple goodness of cornbread dressing. For goodness sakes, no sage and no celery and don’t even think about adding fancies like oysters. Simple is the way to go for this girl.
- Cranberry sauce. Ever since I found out how easy it is to make it myself, I’m done with the can. Not only is it easy to make, but it tastes amazing. Especially with cornbread dressing. Just sayin’.
- Football games. My NFL team (GO FALCONS!) doesn’t play on Thanksgiving, but Mickey’s team does and he always looks forward to the game.
- Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We have yet to actually attend a parade, but it’s fun watching it on TV. The girls will sit and watch for awhile and then we’ll leave the parade on and drift in/out watching it in glimpses.
- Desserts. I was going to list individual desserts that I love here, but, let’s be honest – I pretty much like ’em all. Homemade pumpkin pie, ambrosia with pound cake, cookies. Bring it on, I say.
- Thanksgiving Day naps. Who doesn’t nap on Thanksgiving? I don’t buy into the notion that the turkey makes you sleepy, but I can say that a good ole nap after a morning of cooking and then eating a big meal is a good thing.
- Family time. As always, family time is a precious gift. Whether you gather around the table with one family member or one hundred, be blessed in that time together.
- Being grateful. We shouldn’t just be grateful one day out of the year, of course. But, like I said before, it is nice to have a day devoted to that. No matter what, there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for in every day.
Here’s to a happy, safe and gracious Thanksgiving tomorrow.
Blessings,
Kelly
